On Sunday 8th July, junior golfers from across the county took to the fairways to compete in the County Junior Championships at Breadsall Priory Marriott Hotel & Country Club. The junior golfers played 36 holes on the challenging Moorland Course, one of two golf courses at Breadsall Priory.

This was the first year that the hotel hosted the event. Steve Turner, Director of Golf at Breadsall Priory Marriott Hotel & Country Club, oversaw the competition, commented: “It was a great privilege to host the Derbyshire Junior Golf Championships this year and I could not be prouder to see, not only some huge achievements on the day but so many juniors taking part in these championships. This is a credit to every single player and the hard work that goes on behind the scenes.”

The Breadsall Priory junior section has been training and competing for many years, as a result of initiatives between Breadsall Priory and Derbyshire County to give juniors in the region greater accessibility to golf. With more Breadsall Priory juniors entering the competition than ever before, Turner remarked: “It’s especially important to see juniors taking up the game of golf and enjoying every single minute of it, long may this continue!”

The Breadsall Priory team enjoyed great success, with several members taking top spots in the competition. A few highlights of the golf club’s achievements during the competition include:
