The Wilmslow Golf Club

The Wilmslow Golf Club enjoys the distinction of being the only course in Cheshire where it was once possible for European Tour professionals’ to earn Ryder Cup points. That was in the days when the club proudly hosted the Greater Manchester Open and the Martini International, two of the tournaments which heralded the arrival on the European scene of the great Spanish and German golfers.

In the late 70’s and early 80’s no fewer than six Ryder Cup captains of the future – Tony Jacklin; Bernard Gallagher; Bernard Langer; Ian Woosnam; Sam Torrance and Nick Faldo- tried to master the 6,635-yard par 72 course. And nine members of the European team that won the Ryder Cup in 1985, for the first time in 27 years, had played in the Martini at Wilmslow in 1983.

In more recent times Wilmslow has been a regional qualifying course for The Open and has been the venue for many county championships and inter-county matches. Located only two miles from Wilmslow town centre and within 10-15 minutes of the motorway network, the parkland course has a figure-of-eight layout and embraces a meandering stream which is a feature of the opening hole and three par threes. The greens and fairways are in excellent condition throughout the year.

The Wilmslow Golf Club is a member of the James Braid Association of Golf Courses and offers preferred green fee rates to members of other golf clubs within the association. Please contact the Professional or the General Manager’s office for full details.

Directions

From the South

Leave the M6 at junction 18, follow the road to Holmes Chapel and take the A535 signposted Alderley Edge. After reaching Chelford roundabout, continue straight across onto the A535 signposted Alderley Edge. Continue along, through the traffic lights under the railway bridge and after a mile take the first turning on the left onto Merrymans Lane signposted ‘The David Lewis Centre’. Continue along this road for approximately two miles and The Wilmslow Golf Club is on the right up the hill after a narrow bridge.

From the North

Leave the M56 at junction 6 and bear right onto the A538 towards Wilmslow. The road passes through two tunnels (beneath Manchester Airport runways) and past the hotel. Take the first turning on the right at the top of the hill signposted Mobberley and at the T-junction turn right, again signposted Mobberley. Continue for two miles and turn left at the junction onto the B5085 towards Alderley Edge – the ‘Bird in Hand’ pub is on your left. Continue for one mile and turn right at the crossroads onto Warford Lane signposted ‘The David Lewis Centre’. The Wilmslow Golf Club is 400yds on the left opposite a farm.

North Manchester Golf Club

The par 71 rolling parkland course at North Manchester Golf Club has been entertaining the golfing fraternity of the North west ever since 1925, offering spectacular views over the city and providing a challenge to all who play it.
