Pannal is the only course in Harrogate and North Yorkshire recognised by the R&A as an Open qualifier venue and in July 2015 co-hosted the English Amateur Championship. You may have played others in Yorkshire but Pannal will provide a most enjoyable and challenging test for any keen golfer.

This beautiful course is an 18-hole, SSS Par 72 6,614 yards layout, lying in woodland and heathland with outstanding views of Harrogate and surrounding areas. The signature 17th hole provides the most stunning view of all. We hope you enjoy your game when you visit … it’s a great course and said by many to be Harrogate’s best golf course.

We Welcome Visitors

We can promise all our Visitors a very warm welcome and the opportunity to play a real championship golf course in the year we are co-hosting the English Amateur Championship.

While we do not ask for handicap certificates, visitors should be able to play to a good standard and at a reasonable pace. For groups of up to 4 players please go to “Visitor Tee Booking” where you can go online to book one tee time per day: payment is by credit card.

As part of an overall strategic plan to improve drainage we began work on the 14th, 15th and 16th greens from mid October – the heavy duty work with the contractor should be completed within 4 weeks and, weather permitting, we expect a similar pattern of bedding in and remedial maintenance experienced last year with everything ready for the new season. There will be temporary greens in operation when Visitors will enjoy a £5 discount overall prevailing green fees.

Please click here for details of our Winter trolley restrictions.

We offer excellent facilities including a comfortable lounge overlooking the course: in warmer weather you can relax outside on the Centenary Terrace while you enjoy a drink or a meal, and watch golfers tee off from the first or putt out at the 18th.

Our two bars are run by Jaine Collington who stocks a wide range of beers, lagers and wines. Top quality catering is on hand, with a wide choice of bar snacks and menus which can be served in our attractive dining room or, for larger parties, in the lounge area.

On top of all that we also offer:

Ample changing rooms with showers and a plentiful supply of towels
Practice ground with range balls for hire
Putting green
Buggies, electric trolleys and clubs for hire
Sky TV
Halfway House beside the 10th green (extra cost)
Our PGA Professional, Dave Padgett, and his team have one of the best Pro Shops in the county with a high tech Golf Studio offering coaching to everyone from beginners to European Tour professionals, plus a full range of premium brand clubs, clothing and accessories.

Whether you visit as an individual or part of a society, charity or company golf event we can promise a complete package to suit your budget and ensure you will be determined to play at Pannal again. Please call our Managing Secretary on 01423 872628 to create your package.
Come over to Pannal – Yorkshire Golf at its Best

…but don’t just take our word for it ………

“We had a great day at Pannal! The glorious weather helped, but that’s only nature at work. What completed the experience was a marvellous course, enjoyed by all, even those like myself who didn’t do it justice; but more so the warmth of our reception by Martin, the very helpful bar staff and your young ladies in the evening. Please pass on our appreciation to your staff, and my thanks to you for your help in organising a memorable golf day!”
Ken Hunter, Five Nations Golf Society – May 2015

“I feel I must email you to congratulate you on your open competition of June 1st. From the minute me and my brother arrived we felt very welcome, a nice breakfast was followed by a basket of balls on the range, a coffee and pork pie at the halfway house, a fabulous round of golf on a very good condition course, very impressive greens. A very nice meal afterward with a special mention to the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream. All in all we had a great day and the journey was well worth it , see you next year and thanks again for a great day.
Mr R Clay, Oakmere GC – June 2015.

Ganton, ranked in the top 30 of Europe’s Championship courses, has hosted many national and international tournaments and is a perfect place to play golf.

Nestling in the Vale of Pickering, east of York and a few miles from the coastal resort of Scarborough, a day at Ganton is a day to remember.

The terrain is sandy and gently undulating – a blend of links and heathland. The fairways are firm and fast. The bunkers are cunningly placed and sometimes cavernous – and the greens are perfection, in summer and winter alike. The architecture of the course is a tribute to some the most famous names in golf. Vardon, Ray, Braid, Taylor, Colt and MacKenzie have all contributed to make Ganton the unique challenge it is today.

Their efforts have been rewarded many-fold, with the Club playing host to the Ryder Cup, the Walker Cup, the Curtis Cup, the Amateur Championship and numerous other national and international events.

Sir Michael Bonnallack, Amateur Champion and Captain of the R&A, summed up Ganton well. “The journey from tee to green on every hole is one of the most enjoyable golfing examinations that a player is ever likely to experience”.

Whether for a relaxing game with friends or for a larger group of visitors, Ganton knows how to look after its guests.

As one arrives along the lane to the Clubhouse there is a feeling of peace which is only broken by glimpses of the bunkers – real bunkers, which as Patrick Dickinson described in his classic book ‘A Round of Golf Courses’ seem to say “Good Morning, we hope to be introduced.”

The fairways are predominantly bents and fescues, that provide a firm base for all well executed shots. It was said ‘the lies at Ganton provide the perfect place to practice one’s brassie shots'; not that today’s players carry, let alone need a brassie. However, the modern player will find that Ganton puts a premium on accuracy rather than length.

Ganton Golf Club

Impenetrable gorse abounds within the open nature of the heathland. There are few trees, other than those on the boundaries; with plenty of space, the original open character of the terrain has been retained.

As to the bunkers, Ganton has few peers; the player who is bunkered is punished for the error. In an age when golf designers are making bunkers less penal, this is a welcome feature.

It is invidious to single out any hole for particular comment: the opening holes make full use of the contours of the land and call for straight driving. The genius of Harry Colt marks the fourth as one of the best holes on the outward half with its shot across a valley to a plateau green, the gorse behind punishing less than a perfect shot.

The seventh (435 yards) is a fine dog-leg hole with a great nest of bunkers filling the dog-leg angle. The ninth is the second of the three Par 5s and is marked by a smallish green, guarded by bunkers and gorse, which present a difficult target to a long second shot.

The wind is always a factor at Ganton with the varying direction of the holes. The tenth, the second of the short holes, calls for a well-judged shot, particularly if the wind is swirling over the green. The next four holes can be tempting to the aggressive player before the very demanding finishing holes, which are difficult to beat anywhere.

The fifteenth and sixteenth are stiff two-shotters both requiring perfectly struck shots to subtle greens. The seventeenth is a long one-shotter which is harsh in the punishment of a wayward shot.

The finest hole is possibly the eighteenth, requiring an accurately placed drive to give a clear shot to the sloping, well bunkered green. Championships have been won and lost on this hole for it sums up the principle of the whole Ganton layout; you are forced all the time to a choice of risks, if you are to achieve par.

Gary Player once said that Ganton is the only inland course worthy of holding the Open Championship. It provides a relentless test for those aspiring to the greatest achievements in the game; the fast running fairways and the firm true greens require the highest quality of shot making and control.

DORMY HOUSE GOLF – Ganton now boasts a 5 en-suite room Dormy House, accommodating up to 8 golfers. This is a great opportunity to ‘play and stay’ at a world heritage golf venue. Ring the office for details of the opportunities to stay in Vardon House Dormy Accommodation and play multiple rounds at Ganton Golf Club.

Skipton Golf Club opened its newly remodelled and extended 18-hole course on schedule at the beginning of August.

On a busy launch weekend, a 12 hole stableford competition from the white tees and with a shotgun start was staged on the Friday evening and was fully subscribed. It formed part of a celebratory opening event for members. (Fri, Aug 3)

The following day, 104 golfers competed in the annual President’s Day stableford competition, the first over the full 18 holes. Ben Topper topped Division 1 with 42 points and a gross of 72, which currently stands as a new course record! Heading Division 2 with 35 points was Oliver Wild.

“The weather was perfect and the new course received very favourable comment. In fact, both events proved a resounding success,” said club president Jonathan White.

The remodelled course at Skipton, completed during the club’s landmark 125th anniversary year, incorporates two new par 4 holes and a brand-new raised 17th green. Many other improvements and enhancements all around the course include new tee beds and bunkers constructed by local contractor Oliver Sugden, of Sugden Amenities.

Major redevelopment work at the golf club was necessitated by the Environment Agency’s Flood Alleviation Scheme for Skipton. It has involved a significant investment, which has been funded by the Agency’s compensation agreement.
