The LPGA Tour has called off three events in March and early April including the ANA Inspiraiton the first women’s major of 2020

LPGA commisioner Mike Whan said 2020’s first Major – the ANA Inspiration – and the Volvik Founders Cup and Kia Classic were being postponed because of the coronavirus pandemic

THE LPGA Tour has cancelled the first Major of the season – the ANA Inspiration – and two more tournaments over the next three weeks, in response to the coronavirus pandemic spreading across the globe.

The players were told that in an effort to minimize risks from the global outbreak of COVID-19 and following the California Government’s directive regarding events, the next three events on the LPGA Tour schedule were now postponed. They are the:–

•Volvik Founders Cup – Phoenix, Arizonza, March 19-22
•Kia Classic – Carlsbad, California, March 26-29
•ANA Inspiration – Mission Hills Country Club, Rancho Mirage, California, April 2-5.

The plan is to reschedule the events later in the 2020 season.

The upcoming two Californian events on the Symetra Tour, set to take place in California were also postponed – the IOA Championship, at Morongo Casino Resort & Spa in Beaumont, (March 27-29) and the Windsor Golf Classic, (April 2-4).

LPGA commissioner Mike Whan said: “This is a difficult situation and as we navigate these uncertain times, we appreciate the support of all those involved with the LPGA.

“I am fully committed to rescheduling these important events on our 2020 schedule, especially our first major, the ANA Inspiration.

“Our thoughts are with all of those around the world affected by this virus.

“And on a personal level, it pains me to see the impact of this health crisis on our athletes, our sponsors and our fans.

“That said, I know keeping our LPGA family safe, and all those who follow us safe, has to be my top priority.

“We will continue to monitor this rapidly evolving situation with our global health partners and are planning for different scenarios for future LPGA events should they be necessary.”

South Korea’s Jin Young Ko claimed her maiden Major by winning last year’s ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills Country Club, beating Mi Hyung Lee by three shots and moving to the World No. 1 in the process.

•The European Tour has already next week’s Hero Indian Open in the last 24 hours.
