Breadsall Success At Derbyshire Men’s County Championships

For the first time, the men’s county championships were held at Breadsall Priory golf club on Saturday 26th May. The championships consist of 36 holes medal and was played over both courses.

The event was well supported with entries up significantly from last year with 15 players from Breadsall entering.

The courses were very well presented but conditions on the day were tough with winds up to 25 mph resulting in scoring being very challenging. SSS was 73 in the morning and 72 in the afternoon.

Nick Taylor from Derby won with a score of 143, second was Sam Potter from Breadsall with a score of 145 and third was Will Davidson with a score of 146. The top 8 competitors go forward to the Derbyshire Matchplay at Chapel-en-le-Frith in early October. Will & Sam will also be joined by another Breadsall member with Phil Rhodes claiming the last spot in 8th place.

More success followed with Breadsall Priory winning the Union Shield for the best team. This award is for the lowest combined score from any three players from one club. The team of Sam Potter, Will Davidson and Phil Rhodes won and will go forward to represent Derbyshire at England Golf English Champion Club at Huddersfield Golf Club on 22nd/23rd September.

Well done to all those members from Breadsall that played. It was great to see so many competing on the county stage.
